Who has put a lot of use into their Skeletool?
on: August 25, 2008, 03:57:57 AM
I know a lot of you guys own a Skeletool (or several), but who has EDCed it/used it a lot?  Just want to get some thoughts about the tool after a while of being out there..

I have become some what of a Skeletool junkie, I really like the bit system in conjuction with a one hand opening blade (clip too of course). It's good enough of a knife (SS version) for a medium duty EDC blade, anything more and I would get the CX. The driver is awkward somewhat and the best way I can use is it to angle the screwdriver and the rest of the tool so it's shaped like an "L". This tool has been beaten and still can take it, had to back up off it though for a while because I was pushing the blade too far for it's given purposes. I was using the blade to push to cardboard in the bailer so I could run the cables through to make a bail, I wiggled and pushed so much I stressed the liner lock. Good thing Leatherman put that oversized hex nut on the other side for a lock stop, if not I probably would have accidently unlocked it. Bear in mind, I do not abuse any of my knives/tool....I tend to baby them, but for some god awful reason I did this to the skeletool not taking into consideration its size. All in all it's great if all you need is the big three (knife, pliers, drivers), most of the time I don't need much else. Hope this helps

I have EDCed a CX for about 4 months now and have had no problems.  I did have to tighten the screw on the pocket clip once.  I like the size and weight.  I still go back and forth between the CX and the Spirit but the Spirit is just a little heavy in the pocket and I like the CX's blade better.  I do miss a scissors on the CX so I just carry a SAK Tinker also.

I've been EDCing a CX since they came out.  I used to have a Charge Ti plus a few others that rotated but now I almost exclusively grab the CX each morning.  For the most part I only need a knife, pliers and screwdriver which this thing carries in a layout which I find very packable.  It gets used almost every day and has been put to the test in a many occasions.  I'm sold and think it's a great tool for people not looking for the whole gamut of a regular MT.  Of course I still have my other more worthy MTs if the need arises but for normal day to day stuff the CX lives in my pocket.

The Tinker does not have scissors.. Perhaps your thinking of the Super Tinker?

My CX has seen a fair bit of service with no issues.

I've carried a CX for a few months. I've used it a good bit, even kind of hard occasionally and it has really held up for me.

I spent $50 and got a CX on it's way...

I'll probably just use it as a light around the house type tool, and if it is small and comfortable enough to carry using the pocket clip maybe it will be my new EDC folder to.

EDIT:
What kind of fasteners hold this thing together?  The 6 sided security Torx on most Leatherman tools these days?

Nope you're right, check it out!

I wonder why Leatherman chose to use those fairly common fastener designs instead of their current 6 pointed security...

Hopefully they will get away from those annoying "security" torx fasteners altogether. >:(
