Must-haves in a SAK

What does a SAK need for you to even consider EDCing it? Aside from a large blade, of course.

For me, it's a can opener, corkscrew and wood saw. I considered getting a Compact, but the lack of a saw turned me away. It just doesn't pay to lug a "toolbox" around if you still can't defeat a tree branch (or fifteen). Besides, my opinion on Swiss Army saws is similar to this forum's on the Leatherman diamond file - if it fits, cram it in there. Best implement design they have.

Or the Camper?  Everything you're wanting without scissors.  ;) :D

Vic Atlas. Mine's black, though.

To be honest, I think you're more of a Wenger Ranger guy. Model 58 Hunter has no "large" flat-head, but I think that's what the blade is for.  :D :P

well ill be drool-ed.

both of those kick some butt IMO.

At the moment, my minimal EDC would be blade, nail file, Vic-style openers, and scissors. Unfortunately, that basic configuration isn't available anymore...

For all the things I need/want it would be either the Fieldmaster or Huntsman. Though I definitely get by with just a Farmer as well. I used to think the Farmer was too limiting because I like having the secondary smaller blade. But the awl has been an excellent replacement for nearly everything I used the small blade for.

For me, the must haves would be: large blade, scissors, pliers, and a saw.. I have to say, I only like Wenger Rangers now! I have a pretty good collection of them.. With an Alinghi coming sometime this week.. I have high expectations for this SAK as well..

Minimum? Everything on the Super Tinker.

Though the saw on the Fieldmaster has me thinking.

It's funny, Vic and Wenger have been so busy making their tools "pocket size", they missed the fact people would want their knives even more if they were bigger.  :D

The absolute bare minimum is the tools on a Soldier, I gotta have those. The saw isn't a "must have" but it's close.

My thoughts exactly.  I choose to carry a saw most of the time, but it's not an absolute necessity like all of the tools the Soldier offers.

Agreed, with the caveat that it must have an attach-point. The reason I carry an SI over the soldier is the bail.

Blade PE
Scissors
Pliers
Inline Phillips
Flat screwdriver

Unfortunately there are no Vics or Wengers that will satisfy the above needs.  Seems a bit odd to me. :(
