Fair well Coby, my loyal friend ...
on:
December 24, 2015, 06:45:22 PM
I'm very sad to tell you guys that last tuesday, I faced the moment every dog owner fears ...
I was at home in the living room when I heared a strange sound outside, I felt something was wrong and went outside to check on Coby, my faithfull Golden Retriever. I found him lying in the garage, unable to stand up ... We immediately drove to the veterinary, and the vet told us straight away he suspected that he had an internal bleeding, and after he took an x-ray he showed us that Coby had a giant tumor right next to his spine, which caused the internal bleeding. The tumor was not visible from the outside, since we went to the vet only a month ago to get his boy parts checked (which were swollen) and at that moment the vet suspected it could be an infection, or a tumor. So he gave us some pills which should take care of the infection, and if there was no progress after 2 or 3 weeks, we should come back to have his boy parts taken away. But after a week or so, Coby looked better so we thought we dodged the bullet ...
The tumor was so big that operating was not possible, so the only thing we could do for him was end his pain ... Since my boys were there with us and they didn't want to see the injection, they all said goodbye, hugged him, kissed him and told him we love him so much ... and then my wife and my boys went outside so it was just the vet, his wife, me and Coby in the room. I sat down in front of him, nose to nose and held his head when the injection was given. I held him and talked to him while he passed away ... typing this makes me cry again, we loved him so very much ... He turned 12 last August, and was in very good shape for his age, right until the day he had the internal bleeding ...
A couple of weeks ago I had planned to make a topic here on Christmas Day to bring some good news from me and my family, but now I'll have to give it a couple of days before I start that topic, first we have to deal with this pain and sadness ...
We could use some support from my friends on the best forum on the net ...
Thanks for reading this my friends ...

So sorry for your loss. I glad to hear that you stayed with him and talked to him as he passed. I did the same with my old dog Jasper and I know how hard it is but I think it's the right thing to do.
Best wishes to you and your family !

I feel your loss, I'm a long time golden owner and lost my last two to similar sounding tumours. Your Coby looks so much like my Hector I'm welling up as I type, at least we can save them from suffering. RIP COBY.

I'm sorry to hear this man. I've been down this road too many times already. Hardest things I've ever done.
You did the right thing for him. It's going to be hard for a while- harder than you can imagine at times, but eventually things will be ok again.

I feel your pain man. My parents had to put down two of their dogs in the span of a couple months.

So sorry to hear this. [wiping tears from my eyes]
Thank you for doing the right thing for your faithful companion, it's hard, but its what we have to do if we love our pets.
The only thing that I can suggest that might ease the pain is to try and remember all the good times you had together.

Sorry to hear of this news. Just went through a similar thing a couple months ago. Just know and remember your dog is no longer in pain. I'm sure his 12 years were great and he was a happy dog.

It deeply saddens me to hear about this. I am truly sorry for your loss.
My family and I know your pain as do many other of your friends here. We lost one of our best friends a few months ago in a situation quite similar to yours. Our golden retriever Tasha suddenly passed on back in March. I like to think now she has a good pal to run and play with. Best wishes for you and your family.
