Doesn't look ripe yet.  I have a very prolific mango tree that I planted in my back yard, but it won't produce until summertime.

I love mangos.  My tree is a hybrid variety developed by an old friend who is no longer with us.  As far as I know there's only 2 or 3 trees like mine left since the old man's family cut the rest down after he died.  My variety's skin is orange and yellow when they are ripe, and while they are only about the size of a baseball they are very juicy.  I peel them and eat them like a peach while standing over the sink so I don't make a mess.  I have about 5 pounds of slices in the freezer, left over from last year, and they are great for making smoothies.

I think you've inspired me to try growing mangoes. What do you think about shipping a graft to Texas? :pok: it could be fun to help keep your old friends work alive, so to speak.

Id have to actually grow a mango plant first, but I think i can handle that.

Regarding mangoes, you can do what we did here -- just plant the huge seed in a pot of soil and let it grow.  (Now it's ironic that we never intended to do that simply coz we're living in a townhouse and a mango tree variety here would span larger than our floor area.  We don't exactly have a back yard for that in the city).
 :tu:

That green mango looks a little too "ripe" already to be a sour salad viand.  If it's still sour though, it's gonna taste good dipped in shrimp paste or even just salt  :drink:

I can send some fruit when they're ripe, or a sprouted seed, but I don't think I can send a cutting.  I planted my tree from a seed, over 20 years ago and it is huge now.

Cool. A seed should work I suppose. Once it warms up a little more over here, ill send you a PM, and we can work out the details.
