Sean, a light you might want to look at is the Nitecore MT21a.  I've read a couple of reviews that suggest it's an excellent thrower for a 2xAA light.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Thanks everyone!  I'm really liking the Thrunite archer 2a, that's exactly what I'm looking for.  The deep carry clip is awesome.

I love this light, very pocket friendly for a AA size light (for those of you who prefer AAA lights  ), with useful output settings and runtimes.

Got to agree with you. :tu:  Sometimes I wish the LD09 was a little smaller - then I go back to a AAA light (Tank 007 PA01 or Fenix E05) for a few days and miss the multiple modes, good UI, brightness and good run times.

You need to get a Eagletac D25A Clicky.  Mind you, I think EVERYBODY should buy a D25A Clicky. :D

I had a look at the Thrunite Archer 2A V2... Interesting light, very tempting. Are Thrunite runtimes more or less realistic in your experience?

I also took a good look at the EagleTac... How does one program this thing?!  :ahhh  It offers plenty of options in LED selection (Nichia 219... hm...), OP reflector (I'd like a light with one).

I better stop reading the flashlight forum altogether

Now, everybody please stop talknig about the Thrunite 10S, yes?

Thrunite's claimed run times certainly seem to be in the right ballpark.

As to programming the Eagletac; you actually don't have to do that much.  Head tight gives you Turbo and Strobe.  Head loose give you L-M-H and hidden strobes.  The complicated part is that there is two sets of L-M-H values you can pick from.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Thank you. That's good to know

Re EagleTac, sure having options is great, I'm not sure how I feel about having to tighten or loosen the light's head though  :-\ Furthermore, I know I would lose track of remaining run time if I could choose from 6 output levels (8 counting moonlight!). :-[

Not sure yet, I can't find the 2a on Amazon, but the Nitecore M2A is looking nice as well.

I went with the Nitecore M2A.  I really like the quoted distance for the focused beam, that was a huge selling point.  We'll see how well she performs.  With my awesome prime shipping from amazon, it will be here Monday.  YAY!

I rarely use mine (LD12) so that's good to know. :tu: I've seen pics of some quite battered ones on the 'net...

Mine doesn't look bad, because although it's my most "used" one, it's not my most carried one. I use it to light my room all evening long usually i.e. put it in a glass, shining towards the ceiling. So it has the most "working hours" from all my lights, but is maybe the least carried one :D

Maybe you should invest in a couple of diffuser cones or try and make some.

May I ask the reason why you use flashlights this way? I should think a table lamp or a floor lamp with a LED in it would be better. They aren't "dimmable" though.

Because I need to have some uses for the flashlights around after all  And I really have no small/table lamps, lol. I'm not in the mood for buying any either, since I can use my flashlights  :D

Fair enough  :tu: Then you really should get hold of some diffuser cones or make some (from bottle caps or plastic bottles with rice paper glued on, for example).

I have an 3d led maglite but even my 960 lumen fenix uc 35 can't compete to the maglite when on maximum beam. So to find those specs in an AA flashlight is pretty hard i think. I do like the uc 35 very much. You wont be needing battery's anymore because it is also usb rechargeable.
It is pretty expensive in my opinion, but when you use a flashlight for work and spread it over multiple years i think it is a good deal.

I made a review about the UC 35, here is the link: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,64345.0.html
