As mentioned, Buck used to cut bolts. The trick was to use a mild steel stove bolt, and work the knife through with a series of taps rather than one major blow. Believe some of the original Bucks used 440C, and everyone complained that they were too hard to sharpen. Now they use 425 and everyone complains they won't hold an edge. Can't win.

Correction: Buck now uses 420HC.
