Duh! Not my smartest move...
on: March 17, 2016, 05:32:58 PM
I was fishing in the 'bay and snagged a fairly nice Manager. The scales had some pocket wear, so I decided to restore the shine by sanding them with some 2,000 grit sandpaper followed by a toothpaste polish. While sanding (gently, I swear), the Victorinox emblem popped off. This was a first for me. I've sanded and polished many Victorinox SAKs in the past with no issues at all. I had the brainy idea to glue the emblem back into the recess  ::)

I grabbed a tube of Crazy Glue and a toothpick. With extreme care, I put a micro dot of glue in the recess center and a few more around the edges and gently pushed the emblem into the recess. Not only did the glue fail to adhere the emblem into the scale, it actually melted the Cellidor a bit. I then proceeded to make a bad situation worse by wiping off the tiny amount of glue with a micro-fiber cloth. Here is the result:

Now I need a newish 58 mm scale with a logo.  :twak: :twak:

Lesson: Cellidor and Crazy Glue don't play well together

If you don´t mind waiting for int. shipment and want to invest a whopping 1,50 € on a stamp, I can help you out with red 58 mm scales.
If you want to upgrade, check here:

http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,64839.0.html

Slaughter did find scales locally, so these are available, if you don´t mind the higher (shipping) costs.

If it's a Manager, you'll only need the front tweezer side from a Classic set and you can continue to restore the back side that has the pen with metal polish and eventually Brasso. Just another thought. I've gotten a number of sets of Scales from Tim recently. Great guy and a good cause!

You can use the damaged scale to practice your polishing skills...

FIXED!!
Thanks to Joe58 making me a reasonable deal on 58mm scales  , I swapped out the Daveified set of scales  for a sweet set of translucent ruby scales. What do you think??

This was the first time I've swapped out a set of scales in more than 10 years. I was able to snap them into place with my thumbs, no tools needed.

Thanks Loopcutter!
The Manager does look a whole lot better. The translucent ruby scales are quite striking (IMO). I was hoping to see a religious figure in my muffed up scale so I could sell it for a fortune, but no matter how I squinted, I got nothing. I've since sanded the scale with 600 and 1,500 grit wet/dry sand paper followed by some super fine lapping paper - trying to hide the evidence of my defacing Cellidor scales (I'm sure I broke some law somewhere). Thanks again Joe58  :tu:

You are welcome.  I have the ruby scales on a classic with the pen and red light.
Never thought of before but one of my vagabonds would look real good in ruby, maybe the other in translucent blue!
