Contractor grade???
on: September 05, 2008, 03:06:30 PM
As mentioned before, I'm thinking about getting a friend of mine a Powerlock. I shopped around and settled on a certain eBay auction that fit the bill, in all respects. However, the tool is described as being "contractor grade" and does not seem to have SOG's gear covers. What does this mean? Is it a different kind of Powerlock?

Nope not different in any way, "contactor grade" is just a fancy way to sell products at home improvement places, it's a sales gimmick. The powerlock there is no different that what you buy anywhere else, this model is the older model of powerlock without the gear covers, the new 2.0 has the covers on it. I got both my Flash II and my Twitch II from Lowes and they both said contractors grade on them and they are no different than the original products you buy from anywhere else. Hope this helps

its here,or what did u mean by"and how are you gonna get it past Finnish customs?...".finnish customs are working overtime and we have very loose laws anyway, getting a sog here aint crime ever.we dont have any laws againts locking blades either.

Well, I remember the time you tried to mail the Fuse to me, it got sent back without leaving Finland. Do you think this will still be an issue?

Edit: and more importantly, how much is it worth to you?

ooh now i understand.yes, the issue might be different this time, since i could remove locking mechanism etc,to make sure that it is ok,for finnish and israel laws&customs.and i hope they would be too, since i got this feeling, that in post, they dont know very well the rules about sending knives.caus ethey tried to tell me first,at customs that if the leatherman is multitool with knife,in catalogue, its outlaw, immediately.and i kept saying that hey why did u even check the item more closer,to see it has no blade at all.and it was written on the sticker on top oc package too but i think that if the "contents" list says the word leatherman, its alarm bells all over, only because theyre either too busy to read it completely or cause they are lazy folk who doesnt have skill to read and understand at the same time.

but,are you asking me to sell my powerlock?
im afraid it aint for sale :-\.

i just wanted to say that sog powerlocks are very good tools, not lightweight-minimalistics,but same kind of heavy duty gadgets as swissgrip, sore, surge and so on.

Ooooooooooh, okay. I didn't realize you were recommending Powerlocks in general. Well, my only issue with them is the price.  :pok:

I purchased my Powerlock from an Ebay seller a couple of months ago and it also was advertised as ''contractor grade'' . I always wondered what the hell it meant. Thanks for the clarification.

"Professionals" tend to abuse tools unnecessarily and thus buy tools that are readily replaceable. Expensive quality tools are for home users with more money than sense :-)
