Is it an original Wenger knife?
on: April 16, 2016, 07:29:31 PM
Hi everyone!

I am new to this Swiss Army Knives world and really glad to be on this forum :)

Just wanted to ask, is Wenger still in knife production business? Last time I checked Victorinox acquired it and has incorporated some of the Wenger models in its  delemont collection.

Then all of a sudden I found some Wenger models listed on Amazon.in and orderd one. This was a new seller but perhaps the stock is old.

Anyways, it arrived today and felt new, the blade and scissors were sharp and I actually found it comparable to Victorinox classic SD and thinking of replacing Vic with Wenger for keychain EDC.

Does the attached pic look like a genuine Wenger product?

Thanks

Sure looks like a Wenger to me. :tu:  Wenger no longer produces knives, but there are enough of them around to make them not uncommon.
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D

That was quick - thank you :salute:

OK then, now I am going to order another - listed as "Eloxy 01" :) looks like Pocket Pal by Vic (unfortunately this model by Vic is not available in my country as of now).

Hello Eins,

Welcome aboard!   :cheers:

That's a Wenger Esquire. At one time it was available in dozens of colors. Your's appears to be the translucent Watermelon Pink.

Thanks to both of you. Nice collection ColoSwiss and wonderful link, a lot of information there  :salute:

However I am unable to find "Wenger executive 81" on sakwiki - another model which has recently become available. It looks identical to Esquire, maybe a variant but I am not sure  ???

Executive or Executive 81 was also used at times for the Esquire. The model number is 1.81.xx.

Executive was also used as a name for the two-blade Crusader and President.

The more you get into SAK names the more they will drive you crazy.  Victorinox has used Golfer as a name so often that its a running joke that any new unknown model is assumed to be a Golfer.

Hmm... That's interesting. I think with executive 81 I also saw a "Wenger golfer" in related items!  :think:

Eloxy arrived today :mail: The blades are razor sharp, and I really like the slim profile  :)

I went to Amazon.in to search for more Wengers by that vendor and they seem to have vanished, even an exact search by the model name/details yields zero results - not even an out of stock status  :ahhh

Also came to know that this Eloxy too has another name viz. "Patriot" (but Why?) - you are right ColoSwiss  "SAK names - they will drive you crazy"  :facepalm:

Patriot is different from the Esquire. Longer, 84mm.

Yes sir, understood :)

Esquire = Executive 81 (65 mm).

Patriot = Eloxy  (85 mm).

Thanks for taking the time to reply, have a nice day  :tu:
