With the exception of the little Vic SD Lite which lives on my keys I only have MTs.
SWMBO hasn't seen the full extent of my collection, I approach things from the utility angle - is the MT of use to me? If not then I don't have it. If it is then do I depend on it? If yes then I'd better have some spares. For me the ultimate MT is the Crunch, it's compromised in many ways but the locking pliers are just the killer punch compared to every other MT.
So I've got a UK EDC modded crunch... and 9 more in their boxes (just in case)

My family and friends all know full-well that I always carry an MT, many rely on the fact "oh Bob's coming round - I'll ask him to tighten that screw / adjust that nut etc...)
I think MTs require less explanation than just a knife, certainly in the UK that is the case when talking to the Police!
But in general I take the bullish attitude - "I don't need to explain or justify my behaviour, I'm not breaking any law and if you don't like it then sod off"
