Mountaineer Lite with new LED?

Hi there,

Has anyone observed a vic mountaineer lite with the newer, stronger led light?

I have an older mountaineer lite and it is beautiful but the light is weak. Would be tempted by a new one if you can get them with a stronger led :)

You could always get a new Spartan Lite and mod the brighter LED into the Mountineer lite

Man, the Mountaineer Lite is my dream SAK.
Or it would be if it had the magnifying glass instead of the Lite and didn't cost more than a Swisschamp.
It's insanely expensive for what it is. I don't understand the pricing.

It says on sakwiki that Mountaineer lite is discontinued as of 2016 catalogue. When did they started to put in new LED?

How hard would it be to fit a new LED?

Having bought a Forester, a Hunter XS, a Fisherman, an Outrider and two Damascus Pioneers in the last few weeks the last thing I need is another SAK...

But as soon as I hear the words "discontinued" my knees go wobbly and I lose control of my senses (but not my bowels, luckily.) So I better get one of these before it's too late...

Agreed! I react the same way and had a bit of difficulty finding that one a year or so ago.

So we'd be looking at a complete reassembly path here? :/

I suspected the Mountaineer Lite had been discontinued, so yeh... thinking only a limited time frame could have had the new led; if at all.

It's a great tool combo; pity to see it go. For me it makes more sense than the Explorer; as I don't use the magnifying glass but a light and metal saw/file are useful!

If the lite produced light, this would be great.
If it's as weak as my Spartan light, it's so dim you need another light to see the photons coming off it...
Kind of shocking that Victorinox made such a flaky tool. Every bottle opener, saw, file, corkscrew etc works flawlessly. The "Lite" is borderline junk.

That said, what did I buy last night? Yes, I bought myself a Mountaineer Lite... Boy I wish it had a magnifying glass instead. Looking forward to getting it, though.

Had a little trouble finding this one also, seems the Mountaineers are not as popular in N. America as elsewhere. Great toolset despite the light, but if you give your eyes a few minutes to adjust and eliminate all other light sources, it's better than nothing. ::) The only model with the sapphire plus scales as standard I believe, a nice looking and useful SAK.  :)

The Mountaineer Lite has to be one of the few SAKs that I don't already own and want.  Sounds like I shouldn't hang around.

Great toolset despite the light, but if you give your eyes a few minutes to adjust and eliminate all other light sources, it's better than nothing. ::) The only model with the sapphire plus scales as standard I believe, a nice looking and useful SAK.  :)

If I was Keith Richards I'd be looking at this thing and wondering "Why the hell didn't they put the pharmaceutical spatula there instead of the metal file?! Take the batteries out and you've got a perfect hiding place..."

Ya, the question was asked before, but it now looks like a new light would have to be taken out and put in an old knife. Might as well custom build the whole thing at that point...

I don't mind the red LED on my Midnite MiniChamp. It's helped me through plenty of dark, enclosed spaces, and illuminated a number of keyholes in the middle of the night  :tu:
That said, I can see it being less useful on a larger SAK where you might actually have a need to use the light during handyman type work.
