I loath the original Supertool, it put me off MT's for the better part of 10 years, and all (well mostly) because of that stupid locking system >:(

 :pok: :D
It is awful though, try using it with numb fingers ::)

An awful lock that works every single time, never fails and has the fewest components possible though  :pok:

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Supertool is a great, zero BS tool that has great impliments and just works really well.  It does all I ask of it.
Now use it with numb fingers, at 11pm in the dark and see if it's so wonderful :)
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

So are you honestly saying that with cold hands, tools are easier to get out on a Swisstool than they are to lock on a Supertool?

Honestly yes, but then I've never had a problem getting the tools out of either MT :)

It's the putting them back that was the issue :-\ The Swisstool I can manage it no probs, but the LM was a different story entirely I'm afraid.

Really??  I'm a fan of both tools and even I'll admit it hard to get at some of the tools on the Swisstool, and that's with warm hands.  :-\  Can't see how you'd struggle more with a Supertool TBH as to release the lock you just lever out another tool which although is not as speedy, is still very very simple.  Perhaps the rust on yours caused you problems.  :pok: :P :D

Uh-oh, another Leatherman versus Victorinox debate. ::)  Gentlemen, you've both been warned before. Keep this debate civil or else we'll be forced to take firm action. >:(

If it was a Gerber you wouldn't have this problem......it would have rusted away well before you got a chance to get a tool out :D

I just read the thread. And agree with this statement.

But, with that said. Both the tools, and craftsmanship are far better than most every LM made today. Size is perfect.

Is there a way to mod the locking mechanism to not suck?

I too love the size of the OG Supertool and wish there was a way to add the locking system of the Supertool 300 to it without sacrificing it's great size :ahhh So no mods that I know of :-\

I'm sure there would be a way to render the locking mechanism null. But that wouldn't really help though would it?  :-\

You could probably take the tools out and grind the notch down and have a non locking Supertool and it would be similar to the way the PST tools snap into place but one would have to be very careful not to grind to much or you might turn your functioning tool into a pile of spare parts  :ahhh :D
