How Tough Is The Juice?
on: April 30, 2016, 07:58:47 PM
Hey everyone, I have a Xe6 coming in the mail later today, and I was wandering how durable it is. I normally use my Wave for moderate screwdriving, some normal plier use, sawing small branches, etc. How will the Juice hold up?

The Juice gets a bad rap, but I think it is very durable. Their biggest issue is inconsistent QC, especially with the Scissors, and unsharpened awls and can openers (which I can only assume are designed to not be sharp).

If you get one with decent scissors, I think you will be happy with the XE6, if you dont mind the smaller implements, and rather wide body.

It is tough enough, for its size.

Should work fine for what you describe.  They use the same construction techniques as SAKa.

I just got it and I must say this thing is awesome! It's funny a tool is so much shorter than my Wave but is thicker.

I had initially thought the same thing as I don't own a juice yet. The blade shape made them look, interesting. That 25 yr warranty too. I still want either the xe6 or just the s2 at some point.

Can't say I'm a regular Juice user but I can say opening the drivers did cut a lot of users including myself.

The pliers make for good light duty use and the drivers while short in my usage worked just fine.  The saw is fine and I've not had any issues within reason but thats not to say pushing the tool should pose too much problem.

I have used the Kf4 some and love it and it is very pocketable  but don't have the Xe6 but I do have a Pro and I find it little to big for my pocket :ahhh It has quite a good tool selection though and the tools on my Kf4 have yet to let me down :tu:

I have a CS4 since a few weeks and IMO it works fine. Scissors are fine, the awl is sharpened (though not really sharp), the can opener works fine and there is no problem getting to the screwdrivers.

I have seen people on YouTube having trouble opening a can with the can opener but to me it looked as if they had never used a manual can opener before.

This.

About 1/3 of the used Juices I bought on eBay had one or another driver twisted, which in turn jammed all three in the channel. Forcing these twisted drivers out resulted in significant cuts on my index finger's cuticle. I learned my lesson, and looked into the drivers the first thing I received any Juice.  :P

Another minus point for the Juice is the possibility of the plier jaw get jammed in the space between the largest flathead driver and the middle one. This jaw is supposed to touch and slide on the middle drive as the tool is being closed. However, if the tool is being closed too fast or too forcefully, the jamming can occur.

I find the Juice line too light duty for my taste. They are pretty things to collect though, especially the old-style ones.

all Juices, new or used will hurt your finger with their screwdrivers, they will cut you.  It is an issue mentioned many times, that has not been fixed yet.  You just have to be aware of that and be careful.

I have 3 original Juice S2 models (2 of which are still in their original boxes) and a new style Juice S2. Every one of the old style juices the screwdrivers would cut you if you weren't careful. The newer model I never had that problem with. Seems like they changed something to keep the flatheads from nicking fingers. But I still like the original Juice model the best

I do not have the new model, so it is good to see that they fixed the issue

Yeah... but a new (old or new style) Juice with smooth rotating action for the drivers is easier to avoid the cut. A jammed pack of drivers in my case is most definitely going to draw blood when they spring out of the channel.

I used a file to dull the corners, which helps.

Wipe down the Juice tools with a light coat of oil as soon as it arrives.

Rust spots appeared on my Juice CS4 shortly after it was out of the box.  I had left the new CS4 sitting on a living room table before I had a chance to oil it.

I just want to add that my Juice S2's pliers are less sturdy than my Deluxe Tinker's. They flexed pretty bad when bending a cotter pin, while my DT can roll medium size nails into spirals (OK, so I was bored.)

I always wanted a XE6, but never got one due to the price and the tools did not lock. One day I will break down and get one!
