International shipping costs? U.S.~UK
on: May 19, 2016, 08:13:30 AM
Hey guys. Newer member here and I have started to make trades and sales in the marketplace. I have sold hundreds of items elsewhere, but all CONUS. Easy breezy...

I went to the USPS, I am well aware that prices have been steadily increasing. But, I was shocked to get a quote of $36 to ship a Leatherman Supertool, nylon sheath and mini maglite (on the lower end of the scale w/tracking) to ship from Oregon to the UK.

Please, any international shippers, are there any other avenues or cheaper options?

USPS First Class International should be 8-12 USD... 36 USD is Priority Shipping. I'm having the same issue nowadays...

I told the lady, multiple times, for all the options. she didn't seem to have all the answers, and it got testy... She was not very helpful to say the least. I'll maybe try another PO. I need to ship tomorrow.

So what issue were you having?

I don't understand why it's more expensive from the US than it is to send to the US .
Most multitools / saks have cost me £9.75 to send first class tracked and signed  and should take about 5 days to get to its destination.
Which I think is pretty acceptable .

Pricing is up to the sending country.  International packages leaving Australia are usually fairly expensive, Canada to Oz also seems pricey.

Last time I had stuff sent to the UK from the US (a Leatherman Charge) it was $22.50 but I've had SAKs shipped for less.  Small international flat rate box was something like $33.

Tried to buy a book yesterday. Book was 8 usd shipping was 36 usd by eBay shipping. I asked the guy and he said he couldn't change the shipping setting... I'll just have to skip it ;-(

I believe that the $22.50 is without any tracking or insurance though, right?

You have to dig around a little on the USPS site, but what I think you might be after is called "First-Class Package International Service".  Near the bottom of this page: https://www.usps.com/international/mail-shipping-services.htm

Apparently the UK is a Class 5 price group so have a look at this price list and check your package weight: http://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/Notice123.htm#3138992

That would be the cheapest international option. Unless you really need something there fast, or have something really expensive to ship, don't mess around with Priority International Shipping.
