Uh, no.  That's what the linesman's pliers on my belt are for.  But, that's hard fencing wire.

I do recall cutting soft wire once--didn't hurt the knife--it's still razor sharp.   I've had the thing a year, used the heck out of it, and never sharpened it once.

How did it go?
l haven't, but I think I'd use the awl if I had to do that with the older alox Soldier.
With the new one (or most cellidor) I'd probably use the bottle opener notch and bendy-bendy rather than put a notch in the blade.

The old Wenger can opener would cut wire just fine too.

If it's thin copper wire, then no worries with the blade. steel wire no bueno, and that includes copper-plated steel antenna wire.
