I have a Swiss Army Knife History question.

What is the history of the 84mm Swiss army knife design?

Hi mg,

Welcome aboard!

That is a question for which the answer is almost as extensive as the history of Victorinox and Wenger. Both companies made 84mm knives at least as far back as the 1920s, and in a tremendous variety of patterns and handle materials.

Check out the SAKwiki for info on a lot of the more recent Vic 84's and Wenger 85s.

Thank you for the welcome and the reply. But I checked Sakwiki it did not have the information I'm looking for I also ran a google bing yahoo google crome search and I posted this question on several other websites. But I still have not located this specific information. I wrote to Victorinox and asked them but I have not heard back yet.

Welcome aboard MG357 and great question.  As much as I really like the 84's, I don't have any info to provide on the evolution of the  design...we would need one of the members such as Jazzbass to weigh in...

Maybe you should refine your question a bit so we would know how to answer it better. ;)

Today only a few models are still being made in the 84mm size by Victorinox, while for decades most of the lineup they offered was available in both 84mm and 91mm sizes. At some point in the late 70s early 80s if memory serves me right, I'm by no means an expert on history, Victorinox decided to concentrate on the 91mm size and Wenger chose the 85mm size and it remained like that till today.
