sounds like someone needs to get a beater plastic handled Micra and find out...I suspect you will discover that the plastic isn't easy to remove though. and I'd be willing to bet the handles are not stamped, or particularly well polished underneath them.

HelloI have one blue "painted" one and one blue plastic covered one.The plastic one is definitely a extra skin as the plastic one is almost 2mm thicker across the body.Underneath it looks just like a normal micra . I am waiting for my tools from Loki which are due any day now and then I will dismantle it to have a look underneath. Don't want to use my Crunch is it roughens up the thread a bit. I bought a lot of TSA micra confiscations off of ebay and there was one green "painted" micra and the paint was really tatty so I scraped it all off quite easily ( using another micra off course) and it looks pretty much like any other micra in terms of shine or being polished up . Maybe will take some pics before and after .
The PC Police called and requested the thread title be changed to Micras of Colour.
Here's a post from a long time ago about the different Micra coloured finishes: clicky. Might be helpful for this discussion Under the plastic scales is basically a stainless micra, BUT the screws used are a bit longer to accommodate the scales' thickness. So if you remove the scales everything flops about!
I think that there is a thread on here that showed how to remove rough paint jobs on the painted Micras I think it may have been started by DaveK They had a duller appearance than the reg SS Micras after the paint stripper process Let us know if you find anything out about it RP
