Well, today was a great day. This beauty arrived from master smith Ray Kirk.

The handle is really something else. Just look at that color, the grain, all polished smooth with the MTO logo etched on there. And it feels good in the hand, too; warm and smooth and solid.

I love the contrasting light & dark between the grind and the rest of the blade as it was forged. The edge is a mirror. And here's Mr. Kirk's mark:

I must confess, I completely missed the post where this knife was actually shown; I thought I'd won the kitchen knife on the first page. But I have to say I was even happier after Ray reminded me in a PM what I was getting. It's truly a work of practical art, my pictures don't do it justice (plus the sun was starting to go down and that didn't help).

One last shot now, next to a previous MTO anniversary piece.

Thanks again to Mr. Ray Kirk donating his talents and this amazing knife to MTO — and by extension, now to me — in honor of the 10th birthday of the best forum in the world! I know it was random, but I'm still very humbled and pleased to receive such an excellent gift. Thanks also to Zoidberg for running the giveaway! And of course, thanks also to Grant and everybody else at MTO who make this such a great place.

I have been jealous of a lot of winners over the years, and drooled over a number of prizes that were given away, but I have to say that I honestly think this one tops them all. I have a knife that Ray made me a few years ago and on top of being a great gift, it is also a very beautiful and hard working little knife. I love it, and I can only imagine that this one is at least on par with mine.

Thanks Ray, and everyone else who got involved and who have been a part of this site for the last ten years (or part thereof!). Everyone gives me credit for this great site, but without all of the members here making it what it is, it's a whole lot of nothing!
