Can you identify this tool?
on: July 25, 2016, 01:01:22 AM
For those who are not following there is a sci-fi TV show called "Dark Matter". On their latest episode (that would be episode 4 of the 2nd season) a multitool is being used on one of the scenes, see the attachment below.

While questioning the existence of contemporary multitools after hundreds of years makes sense, let's not go there :) What I would like to question is, what is this tool? There is a roundish logo on the bottom of the handle as you can see but I could not identify it. Is this a Chinese replica of something, maybe?

If you can watch the episode, the time stamp when the tool is seen is 04:02 approximately.

It's a cheapy no-name one; the stamp looks like it might be Bass Pro Shop?

I know that one
the stamped key-ring bracket and pivot nuts give it away...
Cheep Chinese make; used to be marketed under the Sheffield name for a couple bucks but now it appears under random brands. Most now have random company logos and loose the textured finish and sticker grips.
I used to carry one about 15y ago, handy bugger, but pivot screws needed locktite. Replaced mine w a SwissTechMicro+

There is also currently a variant sold at Walmart in the fishing gear with skinny long pliers and a needle/probe? of some sort. It is under the Mustad brand I think.

"It's a cheap Chinese replica (Sheffield #12010) of something like a Squirt P4, but it should give me some idea of whether a keychain multi-tool is something ..."

I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.
But for now I'm just a lost jack of trades with neither mastery nor home. ~NoaIsumi
