I've had the line on the backside of mine too, til I shaved a little wood out that side of the slot, to keep it from touching.

I did the vinegar soak to mine, by wrapping it in a paper towel.  Then used it to wear the rough finish off/even it out, with a protective coat of mineral oil. 

It didn't hurt to remove the collar while it soaks in that oil.  I haven't had any problem with the collar on mine, even after pulling it off a couple of times with snap-ring pliers, to clean under it.

If you look at the most recent pic, that line is basically gone from normal use. I haven't noticed any problems with the collar, other than forgetting I had locked the knife closed ::)

Its been a couple weeks since ive carried the opie, I suppose I should update this thread again tommorow...
