I don't trad climb but I do spend a lot of time hanging off a rope Most of us carry a SAK of some sort on a long string around our neck and tucked away underneath the shirt.
yeah, I've looked at the knives you guys have mentioned - i think i'm settled on the petzl - it's pretty cheap and fits the bill for what i want.

Petzl has had a few missteps though. Issues with their Grigris and in my case, a Tikka plus headlamp sudden failure on the mountain. The rubber straps that helps hold it closed broke, spilling the three AAA batteries onto the snowfield. Nearly a disaster.Their ice screws are a snag fest without the benefits that the Grivel 360s have in rapid drive with their snag prone handle. I do like their ice tools, quickdraws and harnesses.

I've played a bit with one on a few occasions, but as the forum title says, I'm more of a multitool/multifunction knife kind of guy.
