SAKWiki Main Menu hits 5,000,000 views

Hi Knights, MTo Members and Lurkers,

As I think we all know - SAKWiki is the defacto reference around the world, and across all social media platforms for information on Swiss Army Knives - And it is maintained by our team here at MTo.

So we have a big anniversary coming up - The SAKWiki main menu is about to hit 5,000,000 views ..... according to the site statistics.

The true number will actually be way higher than this as the collection of site statistics was switched off for a few years!  :o
To give you some idea of daily usage - The average hits per day per page is about 10 for the less common pages, with popular pages such as the Classic having had about 100 hits per day in the last 7 days. 
The SAKWiki main menu page has a whopping 5,000 hits per day (over the last 7 days) which seems amazing to me. And means we should hit the 5m in a couple of weeks.   :pok:    :cheers:

SAKWiki has been around for about 17½ years and has had a few generations of editors from the team that first created the site and generated a lot of the content to the current team - We all owe a great debt of thanks to all editors past and present for this great resource.    :tu:    :tu:    :tu:

Just some clarifications  - As I may have misled you by  under-representing the numbers  !!!   :twak:

The figure of 5m - Just refers to the SAKWiki main menu - So I have corrected the title of this thread

I got the figures of 5m from this page which shows recent edits and can be sorted by number of hits
You can see the figure of nearly 5m at the top of the list on this page

However as mentioned thsi figure excludes the numbers from when stats were not collected

From when we switched stats on again - on 22 of October, 2018 we have had an average of 50k page views per day across the whole of the Wiki. That is about 111,000,000 views in about 6yrs 2 months

The SAKWiki main page has had about 3,620,000 views in that time
So if you prorata that back to when SAKWiki started - That is about  10,500,000 views in total for the main menu
Now of course the Wiki has increased in use over the years so the actual figure for the main menu will be between 5M and 10M

But I think the real figure to marvel at is the 50k views per day across the Wiki!!
That is about 18.25M per year

Pretty sure the SAKwiki is the reason I found MTO. It's a great resource (and a good time killer). Something I'm curious about, the SAKwiki seems to load a lot faster than the MTencyclopedia. Is there a reason for that?

I've gone down many rabbit holes SAKWiki. Fantastic information there.

As hopefully you all know - SAKWiki (and MTo) are both privately run websites, maintained by volunteers, that have monthly running costs and server fees. We have a small income from advertising - But we keep this to a minimum so as not to disrupt the content and pester our users  :salute:

Any contributions you can make towards the monthly costs help keep SAKWiki and MTo alive are much needed and much appreciated    :hatsoff:   Donations can be made via the MTo donation panel or the Wiki donation panel - Usually on the right of a PC browser screen  :tu:

Well there we go folks - We hit 5m on New Year's Day - Nice timing  :salute:

I was watching the stats go up yesterday and we had well over 3.5k hits in about 12 hours - Amazing   :o

As mentioned above - The actual number will be more like 8m - As the stats that feed into this page were turned off for a few years!

The image is interesting - As you see a couple of the founder editors: Admin (Defender/Grant?) and Red Ramage
The amazing ICanFixThat who generated a staggering amount of content for the Wiki
And also the current editorial team: Nick and myself!!
Of course there have been very many amazing contributors in the early days, and also in the second generation of editors - Notably enki_ch
