3-in-1 for new Wave
on: August 20, 2016, 08:59:13 PM
Not that anyone gives a smurf but I added a drop of 3-in-1 to the critical areas of my Wave in hopes it will help with the wear and action.

Anyone else bother to oil their Leathermans?

Yes, I add a little oil to the pivots. And wipe down the insides of the handles every once in awhile.

I've used 3 in 1 as well as other oils pretty often. If I cannot get to my users I tend to spray with WD40 till I can wipe them down and oil.

On a side note I recently got a tackle box PST, literally a PST that was held captive in a tackle box.  It was pretty seized up with rust in the plier pivot and tools.  I soaked in vinegar for 3 days and minimal if anything happened.  I soaked in 3 in 1 oil and the tool seemed to move a tad.  I used WD40 and I couldnt tell if anything was happening.  I finally went and got some Liquid Wrench Penetrating Oil ( spray ) and WOW.

4-6 hours of it soaking and I now have a useable tool.  I used to use PB Blaster as well but I was out of both.  I think this time the penetrating oil really was the clear winner vs every thing I tried for a few weeks.  Now I'll add some 3 in 1 to the tools and put this tool to work.

For a tool as seized as that would soaking it in diesel have also worked ?

Wow, I'm finding a little sure goes a long way. I swear I only used a drop in each pivoting place but I'm still wiping the oil off. Should operate quite smoothly now though :D :tu:

I've used 3-in-1 for as long as I can remember on pocket knives, then started using it on the original Sideclip. I've never noticed any wear on the joints. Knives aren't exactly high heat, speed or stress joints so I have never seen the need for anything else.
