  • If it ain't broke I can fix that.
I've been looking for a UK suppy of some aluminium sheet with a textured / non-slip surface to make custom scales from, but not with much luck locally or further afar >:(.  Only thing I can seem to find is this 2mm thick mini-chequer plate.  Does anyone have other sources of similar / better  ????  Is 2mm likely to be rigid enough if held in place with countersunk screws at the normal pivot points  ???  :P?

There seems to be a fair variety of textured/embossed aluminium sheet in 1mm or lesser thicknesses.  Maybe you could bond that to a flat 1mm or 2mm plate backer?  With the edges sanded flush the joint would probably be unobtrusive.

There's some on ebay, and various other sellers like this one:

2mm is a bit thin to get good engagement with the pivot pins and still have space for the screw heads.  3mm or 1/8" thick would be better, or use button head screws.

im new to tool modding, but if you only need a relatively small amount of material, it might be reasonable to machine the pattern you want into a small plate of aluminum instead of sourcing it as a big sheet

do you have a pic of what you want?
