I didnt see anything about this on sakwiki...I recently got a Wenger knife as part of a multi knife lot. It's got locking blade, nail file, openers, scissors, and phillips/wrench.
It has a broken corkscrew, so I decided to remove the scales to repair it (Vic corkscrew will work right?). When I took them off I noticed they were more like a Victorinox mounting style with bushings, opposed to what I'm used to with 85mm Wengers, those circular connections where a "bar shaped" section of the outer liner snaps between 2 semi-circles.
All the replacement scales I see are that style.
When did Wenger switch to the bushing style connectors? Is this how they do it on all the locking blade knives?
I'll probably make some wood scales for it and do the exposed pins thing, since any type of wenger scale is tricky to find (tho they are available).
But I'm curious about this type of scale because I've never seen it on a Wenger.
The workmanship doesn't look so great. The bushings aren't all flat and parallell with the liner, theyre kind of tilted, and the ones on the pin for the back tools are ground on the bottom edge (since they would hang past the edge of the liner if they weren't ground)
I had the crazy idea to add the wenger pliers and wood saw if I found a knife with those tools for cheap...
The SAK on top is not in question, it has the scales im used to.
