Got me an Explorer!
on: November 11, 2016, 09:03:32 PM
Amici,
I recently found a Victorinox Explorer listed as NOS and picked it up for a just a few dollars compared to what it's worth in this condition..

By the crossbow on the tang, I'm thinking it's late 1980's construction. All I did, was a quick cleaning, some lubrication using Rem Oil, and of course, a new set of plus scales to replace the standard red set..

So far, I have to say that only after a few days, I am really enjoying it greatly. Any other Explorer users here?

Cheers,
Serge

The Explorer Plus is probably my favorite SAK.  I own 6 or 8 of them, because that's what a hoarder does.  They are a little thick in the pocket, but you quickly get used to it.  The high level of utility they provide makes it worth the effort.

Now slap some Plus scales on that bad boy if you want to play in the big leagues.

I have a Explorer Plus with the newer mag glass that I quite like.  When I got it I carried it until I got my Swisschamp.  Of the few SAKs that see pocket time the Explore is one that continues to make the cut.

I had one for about a day, then sent it to Hiratheus who transmogrified it into a wonderful Yeoman...

I've got this one that I bought very recently and put custom Titanium scales on it.

black looks great!

For about 15 years when I had only 2 SAKs it was a red Explorer and a Wenger Handyman.

I have a current version Explorer with cobalt blue plus scales and just recently grabbed a bit older one just like the one I used to have (thicker main blade, screw scissors, no hook, gray mag, but it does have sewing eye) unfortunately the mag glass frame is cracked. It's in my parts bin for now.

I love the inline philips. I dont carry mine as much these days but it's still a favorite.

Amici,
I actually picked up this titanium clip on the bay a few days ago in preparation for the Explorers arrival.. It comes in different anodized finishes as well.  Don't get me wrong. the SS P-7 clips are awesome plus very robust, but something about a nice Ti clip simply rocks..

The best clip I picked up, was years ago from our very own EDCS. It was also made from TI with a black widow spider image stamped into the clip itself. Still got and use it frequently on my Champion, but I have never been able to find anything similar to that awesome clip anywhere since, and I've searched all over..

Cheers,
Serge

Just got one and am really liking it!  I put the Philips head to work last night fixing a dryer for my wife.  I think I'm going to put a set of plus scales on it when I can.

Amici,
Here's a pic of what I feel is the best Titanium clip I was referring to in an earlier post regarding EDC and the SAK.

Currently it is doing it's job in support of what else... The Explorer...

Cheers,
Serge

If anyone needs pocket clips for them, SPAMCORP has a stainless one similar to the P-7 for only about a $1 a piece.  I ordered like five of them and have no issue with them.  It just takes a while to get them, about 2 weeks.
