Help!
on: October 30, 2016, 02:25:23 AM
Hey everybody, I have an old victorinox tourist that I like, but has some issues. The large blade and can opener both are hard to open and won't snap closed. Since they are both on the same end I wonder if that end is too tight. Is there a simple fix to this without paying to send it to Vic? Thanks

Clean thoroughly and oil. Seriously. It's amazing how much gunk can find it's way into the tiniest places. One you've given it a good scrub, dried it thoroughly, and oiled all the moving parts - watch the backsprings when you open and close it, to see if the oil is stopping clean or flushing more crap out. Once the oil is stopping clean, then we can consider other options

I've just noticed you saying in another thread that it's copper scaled. Was that done as a factory job, or is it a mod?

 :salute:

Do go ahead with the deep clean though, till there's no more crud coming out with the oil, and let us know if this cures it or what issues remain

Try blasting it out with some WD40. I find alternating the WD40 and soapy water (dish detergent usually) helps clear all but the most stubborn gunk from used SAKs.

I soaked a stuborn one in an oil filled zip bag over night.
It helps if you can keep it moving. (Placed mine on a watch winder)

Had that with a Spartan a few weeks ago.
No snap at all.

Had to send it in...
It's like new now though.
