CRKT / KnifeCenter Hootenanny
on: November 03, 2016, 07:17:58 PM
I don't have one of these, but I read about this and thought it would be interesting to other CRKT fans here. (I didn't see anything about this posted on MTO, but if I missed it then I apologize.) The long and the short of it is: KnifeCenter had some special run Hootenanny knives in S30V, only it's not actually S30V. You can find the statements from KnifeCenter and CRKT on page 5. It looks like KnifeCenter did a great job handling this situation, offering very good customer service. As for CRKT, I bet they're going to be much more careful of this in the future. This just underscores some of the perils of international manufacturing and the importance of companies to perform good QC on their products, no matter where they (or their components) are made.

May it be as the Pattern has chosen.

Apparently CRKT had some snafus with the Squid earlier this year too. Apparently some models were advertised as Titanium, but were actually stainless steel, and the models with "Carbon Fiber scales" turned out to just. be laminated G10

I have personally met and shook hands with Rod and Doug and many other people at CRKT and I can honestly say that I can only imagine how upset they are about this.  They have always taken production very seriously which is why so many great designers want to work with them.  You don't get guys like Allen Elishewitz, Ken Onion or Brian Tighe by cutting corners.

I have no doubt that CRKT will go the extra mile to make sure everyone is looked after and that this mistake won't happen again.  They are a solid company and they know how quickly word of problems can turn a company rep to crap.  But, everyone makes mistakes, and smurf happens.  Seeing how a company deals with it is what separates the wheat from the chaff IMHO.
