Members in New Zealand Ok?
on: November 13, 2016, 12:49:18 PM
I just read in the news that there has been a massive earthquake near Christchurch in New Zealand.
If I remember correctly, that is close to where Zoidberg lives. :(

I hope all our NZ members got through ok.

I'm not currently in country at the moment, but so far the word is,
shaken, and stirred from what I have seen on FB.
No injuries reported as yet. Some property damage so far. It happened pretty much at midnight local time, daylight will reveal more no doubt.

A small mercy it did hit a sparsely populated area, but two confirmed dead so far.

Some significant damage is now being reported

Just warnings that I am aware of at this stage, a couple of areas the warnings have been downgraded. But still not a wise idea to be too close to the coast

The quakes are far North of Christchurch but are being felt strongly there, as well as other parts of the country.
These are the severe quakes we had recently: http://www.geonet.org.nz/quakes/felt/severe  (you can filter them)
They are being felt where I am as long, rolling shakes, quite different to the ones in Christchurch five or six years ago.
I'm feeling a bit nauseous from all the wobbling....

Thanks for thinking of us.

Seven major quakes in one day!  That hurts! Hang in there.

A lot of the central part of the country is affected, the worst probably being Kaikoura which is cut off due to slips and cracks across roads. I believe they are still without power and water.
I am in Motueka near Nelson and the worst that I have heard of here is plumbing issues eg leaks, brown water. Not counting the psychological effects of course.
