Rebar hard to open, pliers and tools is this normal?
on: November 27, 2016, 08:26:46 PM
My Rebar, few used, needs lot of strenght to open it, both pliers and tools. I tried to lube a little with WD40 but nothing changed. The pins seems to be too much serrated. Is this a problem or using the situation goes better?

I've had he same exact issue with the Rebar specifically. The more you use it the better and smoother it'll get.

My Rebar was very stiff when it was new.  I think this is typical of this model.  I needed to wear it in by using it, as well as by adding a few well placed drops of oil and working it back and forth for a few hours while watching TV. I honestly think that fiddling with the Rebar was more entertaining than what was on the TV. After much use it has become very smooth. :tu:

Just what I had to do with mine as well. It was good for the tool and for my hands to get the feel for the new Rebar.

The only part that was not tight was the pliers head, they were very smooth, that if I stood it up on the handle ends, it would slowly separate to the limit.

Do a thirty day challenge with the rebar, it will provide you new experiences and trust in this design and function.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I must've gotten lucky, mine was great right out of the box, just after they came out. And the plier action is on par with the SwissTool and Spirit: it falls open and shut under its own weight. High quality and lots of functionality in a small package; Leatherman hit it out of the park with the Rebar.
May it be as the Pattern has chosen.

I did the same. It does seem typical for the model it seems. And although I've worked it open and closed and used it on a daily rotation it has gotten better, but it still remains stiffer than other Leatherman tools . For instance I have a 300 here that when I look at it in comparison the 300 is absolutely buttery smooth opening and operation! And it's in excellent like new condition.

Oh, and one more thing, some people (like me) prefer clumping tools because it is easier to pull out everything in a clump and then push back what you don't need.  This is especially true if you don't have strong fingers or long fingernails, or if you have a hard time seeing which tool is which while they are tucked into the frame.

Of all my tools the ST300 is the smoothest opener I have, Buttery Smooth is a great description.  My Rebar has a good bit to go before it gets that smooth, right now it is fighten smooth, like it isn't ready to be woke up..

My Rebar was super super super stiff when it was new.  I had a big fight with it every time I open and close it. Just oil it well and use it. Mine got much better after two weeks of normal use and now it is very smooth.

So I just added a black Oxide rebar to my collection. The first tool I've had two of as well.  but, as with my other, but even worse, this tool is really hard to open and the tools are almost impossible. I just think they're tightening the security screws too tight in the factory. I have a set of lokis keys and will loosen both the tools and plier head, should help to remedy the solution too. Anyway, rebars, I'm still a fan  :tu: :tu:

Tip of the day .

Put some masking tape on the wrenches so you don't scratch the BO coating   :tu:
