What is a Yeoman with a saw?
on: December 16, 2016, 03:01:42 PM
I'm navigating around the Sakwiki site, but can't narrow down what a Yeoman toolset with one additional tool (wood saw) is, or if it exists?
Thank you for your help.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

No.

Model Woodsman b has a wood-saw, but also small-blade and openers layer instead of combo-tool:

This. The Woodsman is what comes closest, but a Yeoman with woodsaw doesn't exist.

It does not exist... Swissbianco has a special one made by Victorinox with similar tool config called the Yeoman MS (Metal Saw)...

Here is mine which I modded myself... I call it the Yeoman WS...

Basically a compact version of the Woodsman...

Thank you!  That's the information I needed.  I was looking at the Huntsman and Explorer, but missed seeing the Woodsman page.

May have to go Woodsman route then as it is hopefully still in production.

Well it happens I did buy a Champion the other day on eBay.  Ad said Explorer, but when I started investigating the toolset after receiving it, it's a Champion!

It was a discontinued model till last year, when Victorinox re-released this model for Mexico. So, for now we have:
- old and discontinued Woodsman b;
- newer model Woodsman (for Mexico) :)

Ah... thanx for the info... SAKWIKI needs to be updated then... Unless I read it wrong, two new woodsman models were issued for the Mexican market in honor of Victorinox 130th founding... special editions?

Here's one of the Mexico market editions.  It's really not that much larger than a standard Explorer and the saw is Vic sweet!  It comes BNIB with a great belt sheath.  Really a nice package.  Kind of a deluxe Camper  :D

Huntsman Lite is available new in box as well...but now we're getting a lot thicker than Yeoman WS.

I'm considering a metal file for a Yeoman w/LED I wanna put together...version 2 or 3 metal file so it can be used on fingernails...I love that new stainless file but it would take off my finger tips.

Then again if I end up using a Compact as the multi-opener donor, I would get the nail file on the hook...which...leaves room for...a wood saw!

Compacts never go for cheap when they're listed as Compacts though. Sometimes there's one hiding in a lot or listed without model number.

So are the ones on eBay from Canada with the sheath?  I best go check out that ad again now that I'm home.

Here's a pic of the sheath.  The seller is from Quebec and seems to have a big supply of these guys.  I got the ruby scales and John (JALind) got one with the red ones.  There's a Woodsman Owners thread on the Swiss Army Knight forum, probably a couple pages back now.  These knives are pretty nice!  Actually I'm in the market for s Camper now from following your thread!  Sorry for the shady pics.  Couldn't get the lighting right.

BNIB Compacts are definitely not on the cheap side... That's why I hunt for 2nd ones that are cheap for fodders...

I initially did a custom woodsman, but it's still thick for my pocket carry... Hence the modded Yeoman WS... only about 1mm thicker than the huntsman...

Here is mine which I modded myself... I call it the Yeoman WS...

(Image removed from quote.)

Basically a compact version of the Woodsman...

That one seems ideal to me.  All it needs are plus scales...
