Another Awl Question
on: December 16, 2016, 12:30:12 AM
I was studying the can opener on my Leatherman Wave, and I was wondering if I could grind away the rounded part on the back of the tool to make a decent awl, and yet still retain the functionality of the can opener?  Or am I missing something obvious here?  thanks.

actually, I'd be willing to sacrifice the can opener function, as long as the bottle opener still worked.

Dunno about the removable one on the Wave, but I've sufficed using the PST II's eyeglass screwdriver as an awl multiple times when I'd forgotten to carry a knife/MT with an awl.

yeah. I was actually just planning to do this. But haven't yet. It'll be an off angle which will definitely be un orthodox, and short version of an awl...

I've done this too. Except the problem is, it's so tiny it sticks into everything and pulls out of the tool itself.

I think I'll scrap the whole idea and get a Victorinox Electrician as a secondary carry tool.  Great awl and a nice short utility blade as well.  Sometimes it's helpful to think out loud.
