Got my first friction folder, quality is outstanding. Little smaller than my small sebenza but comfortable to hold. Blade stock is thick but blade is super sharp. Overall very happy.

Another vote for South African makers. This is a friction folder from JD Van Deventer

Only bad thing I can say is the clip is not anchored to a steel liner. The liner is  man made like micarda but not steel.  The screws for the clip are in the handle material, the handles were tapped to accept the screws. I was assured I could remove and add the clip if I chose too as long as I went slow on removing and adding them. It's so light the clip isn't hindering anything.

It's official, I have what I'm calling FRICTION FEVER. I can't stop looking at friction folders and what I want for my next one. My "anniversary" gift will be here Friday and I'm excited to see my second handmade FF. These knives are like liner locks, lock backs etc, they are all the same but have different styles and materials. Even the one spyderco makes is pretty sweet. Prices range from really affordable to standard custom prices. There really is something for everyone.

FRICTION FEVER
I like  :tu:

I had a bit of a moment as well, seems like thin brass sheets might be difficult to source.

I happen to have a belt of about 30 .50 Cal bullet casings since childhood, going to harvest the material for liners from there.

Here is my second handmade friction folder. This one is by a guy who does it as a hobby and is just starting out. It's very rough and not as finely produced as my other one, price reflects it too. He's got 13 hours into it and it cost me $65. It's got Krinite handles with a toxic green color, carbon steel blade with a polish and wax to help keep it from rusting.  Put together with crude hardware lol

I don't like the bevels he has on the edge and I'm still trying to get them where I want them so they are easy to sharpen, I'd complain but it's kinda like an expensive Svord. Got character and needs some tlc. Overall I like it, it's much bigger than my other one and has a good feel to it.

Interesting observation, the stop pin isn't set in place, I can move it from scale to scale. Maybe some glue or something to keep it still....

This is what I meant by crude hardware.  Etsy is home to all kinds of people like this guy, I admire them in a way. I am glad it's made here locally rather than overseas. He stated any problem with it and he would correct it, good to know.
