I finally picked up a whetstone. I decided to get a combination stone and settled on a 1000/3000. I almost went with 1000/6000 but since I have a few stropping compounds plus some diamond spray thats actually not bad I decided 3000 was a better choice.
Now I wont BS and say I got this because the reviews even though they were good. I got it cause the price was $20 and supposedly it was a lifetime warranty. If I wear it out they'll replace it, though I wonder what shipping would be?
I'm getting ahead since I've only just got it.
I inspected it for any defects, it was sent pristine. I let it soak as directed and commenced to testing it out. I first tried it on my SOG Snarl, then some knife a friend wanted sharpened, and finally my Mora.
I have no clue what the stone is made of. Its made in Japan as stated on the box.
I must also say I am no stranger to whetstones as this was my method when I was a chef.
It was not an expensive stone but my knives never suffered sharpness.
This stone so far has performed on par for what was paid. The 440 steel on the friends knife and 9cr13mov were easily re beveled and brought to hair popping sharpness. My Mora is ( carbon steel ) and was even easier to get silly sharp.
I've got some harder steels that in time I'll try the whetstone out on but for now I am pleased.
I didnt take many pictures but will in time. All my edges are I great shape as of now but I do have a blade or two that I can fool with.
