Are presentation boxes impossible to ship undamaged?

Just got a brand-new Chinese new year Huntsman and the internals of the box came pretty well knackered. This is from a reputable seller but it seems like there was nothing but a single tiny sheet of bubble wrap holding the knife in, so it rattled around for 400 miles. Is this as good as it gets or should I expect better? I'm honestly disappointed.

Wow! For the price that thing costs here, I'd say they should've taken better care in the packaging.

I got lots of cheapper stuff and it comes wrapped in 3+ layers of bubble wrap, making sure it doesn't get damaged while in transit.

I mean I understand that most SAKs come with with minor scuffed scales because they rattle around in the boxes. But let's be honest, $60 of the price of this is for the box. A special edition huntsman with camo scales is like $40. If I'm paying $60 for a box... shouldn't it come nice? I hope I'm not sounding unreasonable.

I'd be pissed as hell...

My golden Climber has 2 little white dents in it's box from storage at the seller.
Last week I saw they had another one in their display with perfect box and I was feeling slightly annoyed already...

The whole idea is, ITS A PRESENTATION BOX  :twak:.  If they cannot send without damage then they should not send.
I'd be bummed and disappointed.  I'd also want to send it back since its no longer worthy of  "Presentation"

Not at all. You are on the right, as a seller he didn't do the packaging justice. For a collectors item or a tool that's gonna be a shelf queen the standards are raised.

I got this yesterday. It was shipped in a bigger box and with paper packing to stop any shimmy or excessive movement. But it only had to go 20 miles or so.. so I would say no, it's not impossible.

I've received several of them from Taiwan, and all showed up in excellent shape.

Those look great! They really are a classy series. Just curious, what freight service did you use by the way?

The same happened to the one I received. There was also only a single tiny sheet of bubble wrap inside the box. Although the internals of mine had less dents than yours, the golden card was wrinkled.

Don't remember if the Taiwanese dealer used regular mail or an international shipper.

Here's a more recent set from Taiwan. Believe they were sent by mail. Arrived in perfect order.

Yeah, mine had one tiny sheet of bubble wrap in a big empty box. That should be a piece of precut foam or at least more bubble wrap... but just one tiny sheet? On a $95 knife they can make it shippable. This is big fail.

Victorinox needs to up their packaging game for stuff like this. Love love love their product, but this is not acceptable to today's market.

Somethings like that also happen to me with a presentation box, not from a Vic but my other hobby Lego.
I asked for a good packaging, because I didn't want that something happened to the box.
He has the whole box wrapped with ductape.
The box completely destroyed  >:( >:(

I guess he thought that the box wasn't important.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

A presentation box should be presentable. Simple as that. So they should have packed it better, to prevent the box from getting damaged!

There should be a shipping option you can toggle on websites like eBay and Amazon for "ultra-coddled, super anal-retentive, Uber-OCD compliant packaging.

Great idea. I'd sign up for that  :2tu:

Yeah, I would be siding with the OP on this one as well. I mean one doesn't have to watch Pawn Stars very long to learn an original box in great shape can add tremendous value to a collectible.
Condolences to stunkel as well  :(  Reminds me of a few items I've had shipped from China - Tons of duct tape, layer upon layer of bubble wrap. One thing was certain - the package was not going to rip open and spill it's contents in transport. Huh, wonder if they do that on purpose to deter customs?
