Hey folks, I've got an 89 Wenger and &89 Vic w/ hollow rivet /no bail.  I truly miss the bail... but.. I kinda wanna put a non-metal bail in there just in case the blade shuts while the bail is in the danger zone.  Or maybe do metal on one and a different material on the other and see how I like them.

The problem I've run into is finding a string or chord small enough to get through the tiny hollow rivet and still be durable.

I've thought about just borrowing the bail from another SI but I don't want to risk breaking the bail with repeated bending.

Poncho.. I saw you made your own brass bail... that's cool...   You heated it up and bent it by hand? or???  Sorry, I'm clueless about this shtuff.

The braided nylon cord in the SOS kit fits through the hollow rivet.  :salute:

Hmm, maybe a small chain? Fishing line? Guitar strings? Necklace string? Be creative, there are lots of things, the problem is being sure they will fit in there.

I had some 1/8 inch brass pin stock (in case I wanted to try my hand at modding 58mm SAKs) and just used pliers and bent it to the shape I wanted ;) Brass bends pretty so if you can find some it is no problem to shape it to what you want for a bail :tu:

It isn't perfect and can be tweaked as needed but here is a pic of the bail I made right after I made it   I have carried it some and it has held up pretty good so far :tu:

Thanks for all the responses but more are welcome!

I haven't tried guitar string b/c it would be scratchy... Maybe guitar string coated in that "flex seal" stuff....

Wire coat hangers are your friend, or I have some orange nylon 'alarm pull' cord that I use. Here's the SI Farmer modelling the possibilities:

Maybe the first 3 strings that are smooth? Nylon? Not sure if nylon would fit though.

I'd go with wire coat hangers... just make them shorter like Poncho's to minimize risk getting closed on...
