Two Wenger Mods

I bought this Wenger Commander for around $7 on the Bay of E to test out some mods before I performed them on my EDC Evo S13. They are definitely worth it. I may have gone a bit too far in removing the tip of the file but it now works very well on #2 phillips screws. I also beveled the awl which made a big difference in its ability to drill.

That's what I call getting the bang for your buck. Nice work
Let me know how the Evo turns out.

I think for the EVO I'm going to take less off the tip of the file and straighten the shoulders a bit., kind of like the 2d phillips on the LM Squirts. Still need to test the awl a bit more to see if a different profile will work even better.

I cleaned it up a bit with a diamond hone. Really hard to photograph with my crappy old cell phone.

Nice work! So, did your profile design intend to drill in a counterclockwise direction?

Hadn't really thought about it but with a T handle it doesn't seem to make much difference either way. I do think for my next attempt I will try to channel a round groove on the edge and sharpen from the other side, basically mimicking the Vic awl and in this case have it drill clockwise. Or I could just buy a Vic Delemont S13 which has the Vic awl

Nice work
I have been tempted in the past to do something similar with the nail file, but I actually quite like the unsharpened punch as a general use pokey thing. The can opener functions as my "sharpened" awl if I need one. You made a nice job of that though, and for $7 and a little effort, you have a very capable pocket knife

I love the Wenger can opener as it seems to have a lot of different cutting applications and does work well as an awl. That is primarily the reason I haven't jumped on a Delemont S13.

Yeah, I haven't gone for any of the Vic Delemonts either. Thankfully I already have a few Wengers in my fave configurations
