Leatherman Tread/Chronolinks
on:
July 26, 2017, 07:15:19 PM
I have had my tread for a few months now and I can never get it to where I am as comfortable with it as I am a stainless steel watch. Its a great tool but even with the 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch link adjustments it's either too loose or too tight. If I could get it so it's just right then i would probably carry it all the time.
I found that Chronolinks.com makes a comfort link and it's longer than the tradition linkage that holds the watch together. I got two and they are on their way to me. I hope this makes the tread more comfortable to wear. I'll let you folks know how it works out.
The tread gets bashed a lot for it's design, I feel I can give this thing some serious mileage if I don't need to fight with it so much.

I hear ya there! My one chief complaint about the tool design is the lack of refined adjustment for different wrist sizes. I have 2 big links removed and it's still too big, I remove the #1 link and it's too tight for me. Adding one or at most two sets of these special links should give me a fit i want without compromising looks or use. Maybe they'll have an upgrade Tread in the future that has some of the problems users have pointed out fixed. Once I get this adjusted I think a one hand opening knife, flashlight and Tread will handle most of my needs with a plier based tool within reach by means of a backpack I've been carrying.

I took out a full link and 1/2 link and I like it much better now. Its heavier than my G Shock but then again I already knew it would be. It a neat concept and while we can be a tough crowd I am glad stuff like this comes out. We would all get very bored if they ( tool companies ) didn't at least try. Thats my 2c

Ok my "comfort link" for my Tread is installed. I ended up hiding on the clasp side when not in use so I didn't have this huge gap between tools. Tried it the other way and looked horrible. I like my watches loose fit enough so they don't rotate around my wrist but not tight so I cannot lift it a distance off my wrist. So far it feels much better and I can flick my wrist and the tool rotates nicely showing me it's not too tight anymore. For the record the link set costs $11 with $5 shipping, I got an extra set of links just in case and it went from 11 down to 8 bucks a set, all together $21 shipped. I'll let you know how it goes this week.

I like it. Fit is such a big deal and while mine is not the "perfect" fit it has worked. I do like the bracelet but I haven't worn it in a while. I forget mostly as I am not used to wearing "jewelry". I tried to wear a paracord bracelet but that lasted a short while.

I am going to wear it on my left wrist in replace of my watch and use my phone for the time. It's slightly heavier than my stainless G-Shock so I won't feel too much of a difference. In the past I've worn those magnetic titanium bracelets before so jewelry is something I'm a little accustomed too.

I wear my watch on my right wrist ( G Shock rubber strap ) and wore the bracelet on my left wrist ( I'm left handed ) so I think that was part of my "feeling" it more than if it were on my right wrist. The thing is, I feel really weird not having my watch on.

I hear you there, having a watch everyday is like a pocket knife, you feel naked without one. I feel if someone used the tread to replace an existing watch you'd be alright but wearing it on the opposite wrist would make a difference. Since I'm right handed I feel the Tread gets in the way and I scratch things up more when I come into contact. Plus if I need to squeeze my hand into a tight area I have to keep taking that item off my right wrist.

Fit has been my biggest objection to the Tread since it's announcements. This might actually fix the silly thing. I've read somewhere, probably here, that Tim Leatherman uses a modded Tread as his watch band.
Now, if only I could find a watch that would survive being on my wrist more than three years. Then it might be worth it.
