I hope this thread doesn't turn into one of those bar brawl things...

Anyway, open carry of swords will be interesting and amusing seeing as how many people assume they know how to use one

It makes me happy to think a Texan can proudly carry a Bowie knife in Texas again. :like:

Soon, they will have a law for the maximum length of the blade, because people stumble over other peoples blade (happened in Paris a long while ago)

Well, a sword is a lot les dangerous than a fire arm, so I see no point in allowing carrying firearms and not swords. At least as long as the sword is in a proper scabbard to prevent accidental cuts to passersby.  :D

I hope they don't restrict people to puny swords. All those that want claymores, zweihanders or any other kind of greatsword should be able to carry one

Problem was that with dueling for first blood, length was key, so rapier got well over 2m long... which seemed to have caused problems in the jammed streets of Paris, so they limited length.
Peasant weapons like claymores and zweihanders are a good deal shorter and so are the heavenly Montante and Spadone.

P.S.: I'm actually not certain if that story is true, but it is entertaining, the least

Look, there's just too many of us.....

Whether the UN culls 90% of us by 2030 or the Texans take us out with their swords......no one lives forever!

But seriously now, how cool would it be if they pass a law you HAVE to carry a sword  :gimme:

While I, personally, don't see the practicality (or wisdom) of carrying a long sword around with you...as an American, I think people should be allowed to do it. As a Texan, I happily welcome the change to the law. I'll refrain from commenting on the Democrat opposition to it. While I have a 7" combat knife, I don't expect to carry it. I do; however, have a machete that I may want to carry from time to time.

Texas seems like such a great place :tu: although we dont have it too bad here in GA either. They just changed the blade limit for concealed carry to 12 inches

Here in Georgia too and I don't worry about carrying anything of substantial size. I worry more what people think when I pull out a blade that's large rather than the law busting me. The new law change was great especially considering we host the Blade show every year.

It's ok in Vermont, although I can think of plenty of shop owners who might ask you to take it off out of concern that your "tail" will knock over half their shelves :P

I would point out that there are places in the US where carrying a knife of a certain length clipped to your pocket is concealed carry of a deadly weapon. This is the counterpoint.

Necessity is the mother of invention. If you're not ready, it's "a mother". If you are, it's "mom".

Ironraven,  I used to live in Vermont. Was born and raised there and left when I was 23. I love the laid back feeling to Georgia but miss the cool weather and the mountains.
