As I set here in the early hours of a Wave Wednesday, I find myself with a small issue...

I have long been a fan of the original Wave.  I’m unsure of when I got my first Wave. I think it was ‘98. But in ‘02, I sent it in for repair after a buddy busted the pliers lining up his small block with its mounts.

I still have the replacement they sent and it has been back a few times for repairs. I always request it be returned.

Anyhoo....  a few years ago I bought a second Gen Wave in BO. Had it for about six months and just didn’t like it, so I sold it.

Now last year I realized my OG Wave was getting long in tooth and I didn’t want to expose it to rough work so I picked up another second Gen Wave, in shiny stainless this time.

I have played and played with it. Just tonight I spent over an hour just opening and closing the pliers. Still... even after all that, the pliers are still very tight.

Any tips on loosening them??  None of my other LM tools have this issue. I’ve lubed them up and worked them til the oil seeped out of the pivot. Re-oiled and repeated.  Still very tight.

I think gerleatherberman says that when they are tight he will put something in the crimper area underneath the pivot and squeeze pretty hard and says that he has had good results loosening them up like this  Hope you can get them sorted, zrxoa  Let us know if this method works for you :pok: :D

There was just a thread about this and I can't find it

It was using grinding paste or lapping compound in the pivot to loosen tight pliers.

Found the video

Might have to try that later. Last night I kept heating the pivot with a little torch, cooking out the gooey lubricant that was in there. Then I’d lay the Wave on a register vent with the AC running, to cool them. Did that cycle several times and wiped a lot of goo from the pivot. I’m out of WD-40 right now. Need to get some.

The pivot has loosened a bit.

Thanks for finding that video, SteveC!!

Not a pretty shot, but it’s here at work with me now...

Used it at home before work to help replace seals in my Delta shower faucet.

Got some nasty stuff that came out and got all over the shower. I think we need some water filtering at the house.
