Date codes on Squirts?

Date codes on Squirts?

Do Squirts have a date code on them somewhere?  I have several P4, S4 and PS4s, but I'm most interested in knowing how old my first P4 is. Seems like I've had it forever (though it was lost for a couple years until I found it again 6 months ago). 

I can't find date codes on them, but I have a hard time finding the codes on tools that I've seen the code on before.

Anyway - is there any point in me breaking out better lighting and magnifying glasses?

I found a year up but the plier (P4) and scissor (S4) pivot in each respective Squirt that I looked at but couldn't really see a month :think: Didn't check in a PS4 though :whistle: Hope this helps some :salute:

What Poncho said, you have to remove the pliers or scissors to see all four digits clearly.

Oh.  I didn't realize that he meant I'd have to remove the pliers. I thought just looking closely around where the pliers are attached would be enough.  My P4 is riveted.  My curiosity about the manufacture date isn't great enough to warrant the trouble of popping/drilling the rivets.

He might not have meant that but I did.

Some were assembled with screws.

It could still be possible to work out the date though.
Half open the pliers/scissors.
You won't be able to see the first digit but you should be able to see most of the second digit.
1 would be Jan or Nov, 2 would be Feb or Dec, 3 - 0 would be Mar - Oct.
The third and fourth digits give you the year.

Sure enough - after knowing exactly where to look I can see a "603" inside of each half of the handle right where the pliers head pivot.  I assume there's a leading zero that is still covered by the pliers hinges.

So these things are about 14 years old.
