Day 5 - Business trip to knife hostile NYC. The Executive has the perfect size for hidden pocket carry. Not much use just a broken finger nail.

I went to the SVAM manufacturing conference this evening where my Siemens Level 2 certificate was awarded. I'm not photographing my Executive with the certification, as I don't know the copyright.

Cool.  :tu:

What is that device next to the Executive? Looks very specialized. Or like a crazy book marker.

It's a laser cut aluminum bookmark that is made to look like an industrial robot, a welder to be specific. According to the program, Virginia Laser donated them to the SVAM to give out as the "favor" for the conference.

Nice. I noticed that the Executive is in no way intimidated by the robotic welder. Naturally.

But, ohhh..., what a great package!
It surprises me that no-one seems bothered looking at other members packages.  :o

I didn't use the Executive today. But here is:

October 5th

Today went by like a flash. I went to work, and worked my ass off.
It was one of those really busy days. There were patients everywhere!. Stacked!

At the end of the day I had to wait for my girlfriend again. So I went for a cup of tea and a treat.

Executive & dome shaped chocolate pie

I used a fork on the pie, I didn't want to get the Exec all messy.

Back home I didn't even cook. We went out for fries. After that, straight to bed.

It bothered me that I didn't really use the Executive today. But thinking back about that I don't think that much of an issue. I carry a Handyman and a folder on me every day. There is a Cybertool 34 in my backpack and a ResqueTool in my car. Some aren't used for days, some not for weeks.
It's the fact that you carry your knife that makes it possible to use it, if the need arises.

Day 6

I made some pomegranate juice (is the name correct?).
I used the serrated blade for peel the fruit, then used its flat tip help me pulling out the seeds.
Then I mixed and filtered them, adding some apple juice. It's delicious!

Day 6 - Attempted to fix a loose door handle in the new place. No dice, one of the spacers / washers was broken. The orange peeler dealt with the Philips screws like a pro, but I am still missing a full sized MT for these kind of tasks!

Day 6: enjoying an orange for lunch.  I had 2 oranges and it took me like 30 seconds to peel each orange . For comparisson, I first tried to peel one with my fingers and had a hard time, decided to use the tool instead and it really does a great job.

October 6th

One of the benefits of driving my girlfriend around is that I get to eat breakfast at different places!

Executive & croissant with jam

This started my day off with quite a surprise! I had expected the Executive to tear the croissant apart because the large blade is, well, small. It outperformed my expectations by miles! This one clean cut croissant with jam spread perfectly.

Executive cuts

It must have sensed me underestimating it because moments later it drew blood!
My thumb slipped over the blade and I messed up the table with blood. I used a jam cup to catch the blood. Good times.
The large blade is sharp and thin, it left a deep 1cm long cut in my thumb.

Now, on a side note,  I don't carry band-aids. My philosophy is: if it needs a band-aid, you don't need a band-aid.
Today I had to reconsider. While the cut itself is very minor, the amount of bleeding was a problem.
Had I had a band-aid ready I could have stopped bleeding all over the table. The restaurant was not amused.
I'm going to add a boo-boo kit to my EDC.

My girlfriend was still busy when I finished bleeding breakfast so I went for a coffee. I used the large blade to evenly divide the coffee in the filter of my Geisha slow coffee.

Executive & Panama Geisha Coffee

Apart from coffee passing through things (Kopi Luwak, Black Ivory) this is supposed to be the most expensive coffee in the world.

I got a few new things today, so I used the large blade to cut the tags off. A pair of new shows, slippers and a towel.
Tomorrow will be a pretty hot day as we are going to a wellness spa tomorrow. I've never even been in a sauna!
I'll have to leave the Executive in my locker as some saunas are 95'C and that's well above the melting point of the cellidor scales!

I agree!  :tu:

Busy day at work, slow day for the Executive. I did use the small blade to open a package of peanuts, and the orange peeler to open a package. The package contained replacement Band-Aids for my FAK. I had used up a good XL Band-Aid to treat a student at the local community college who cut himself on some shop equipment. Funny coincidence, eh, Mactire404?

Great points. There are often days when I don't use a pocket knife. But I always want one with me. During these challenges, I do try to look for ways to use the knife, just to learn how it works and see what it can do.

I used the scissors to cut the pipe going into a soap dispenser hand pump. I've had trouble with the pumps that come with Hibiclens clogging, so I made sure it was even before putting it into the pump itself (they come in a separate plastic bag).

I am really enjoying the submissions in this challenge, especially some of the photos that draw us into the daily tasks.

I have two used Executives that have both been through my spa and lube treatment and are now awaiting progressive sanding & polishing of the metal tools.  I was eager to get this done as soon as I could manage it but am now recovering from an out-patient procedure that will include a couple of weeks or more of wound care. So, I will need to derive vicarious enjoyment for the present from this challenge while the 2nd part of my refurb project is on hold.

I'm definitely of that philosophy but I do try my best not to bleed profusely in public :D

Been a few days where I haven't had to use the Ambassador. Apart from the toothpick and I'll save you the photo's of that. More package opening but exactly as per my photo above.

But it's great to carry the Ambassador and the name just keeps amusing me every time I think of it. I am jealous of those of you carrying an Executive with your fancy files and orange peelers. You sophisticated lot, how lucky are you, with that extra layer. I could go and grab mine but that wouldn't be the point so I'll just keep on being different !

Day 7
It's time for a beer!

Considering the advice reported here, I started using the tip of the serrated blade and twisted the tool,  3-4 times, moving it in one direction. But it isn't enough, maybe I did it wrong, so used the angle of serrated blade to lift the cap and open beer.
It was simple, no difficult doing it.

Here it still a bit early for a beer. I used the scissors to start the day with a mug of instant. Not bad.

So far, Bill, I haven't done anything with the Executive that the Ambassador couldn't have done equally well. And with less bulk and weight. Edge: Ambassador.

But....I am becoming fond of using that weird little orange peeler tool. It's not that it's better at anything, except maybe opening a beer bottle, but it is fun to use.

I took my lovely wife to Tucano's Brazilian bbq to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary. No, the Executive wasn't used to cut steak. But, the toothpick was definitely used.
