I didn't see this posted anywhere. But maybe I looked for the wrong thing.
A new Signal TOPO. It has dark green handles, black oxide tools and dark (black?) plastic parts.

I'm not a big fan of the Signal, but that actually looks pretty cool.  I might be tempted to get one of those....

Its a great looking Signal.
Thanks for the link. I didn't think to look in a thread about other Signal colors.

Yeah, very nice. I mentioned this late (p50 something?)in the original "is Leatherman making a survival tool thread. It IS nice looking. I wa  there at REI looking for a Swiss Army Knife, and off to the left were Leathermans. The temptation almost won me over. Topographical map on the blade and deep forrest green handles....but I snapped out of it, and reasoned that it's still just a Signal.

Lipstick on a pig? I wouldn't go that far but I can get more bang for my buck from any 5 other Leathermans at least.

Now that I've said that, my birthday is coming up sometime in the next twelve months. I may wind up treating myself to a late/early birthday gift some payday soon. After all, the blade, saw, plyers and cutters are still all of those things. And the other issues...maybe they aren't as bad as I read.

Naw.

Maybe.

Um...

Can anyone confirm whether or not the quality of the whistle, Ferro, file and such are any better or worse that those of a Smith's Pocket Pal or Pocket Pal x2?

I carry one of the pocket pals in my hiking pack for my whistle and a second Ferro. If Leatherman Signal' s similar components are no worse, then ok, maybe I can live with that as another built in backup. But specifically, has anyone done a comparison?

I haven't even held either yet, but why do I get the feeling that a Gerber Pro Scout would be a better purchase at half the price, and using the remainder on a good whistle, Ferro, small compass and a pocket space blanket? Probably with $ left over for a burger.

Get a FOX 40 whistle.  The whistle the NFL refs use.
