Seems like everybody's wanting to bomb everybody else nowadays. The Basques had been more or less off the radar for awhile here.I'm glad that you only heard the blast and not an eye witness or worse.

they've been quite busy actually... I suspect this latest attempt is in retaliation for the 3 suspected ETA members arrested in Pamplona this past weekend...

I had thought Spain had stabilized a lot in the past past 15-20 years,I guess someone had figured things were going too smoothly, and wanted to upset the cart. Here in the US,the news is covering bombings in India, conspiracy theorists will have a field day, stringing it all together into a co-ordinated terror campaign.

they had a ceasefire for a year... the government and ETA couldn't come to some sort of agreement, ETA bombed the parking garage in an airport in madrid causing 2 dead, and that was the end of all talks... since then there's been a pretty steady stream of bombings all over Spain... nothing like what's happening in the other parts of the world mind you, but still bad nevertheless...

It was a severe screw up... ETA normally calls in beforehand so they have a chance to evacuate... in this case they called in an hour beforehand to a different city, so the police checked the wrong campus...

Luckily it was raining... if the weather hadn't been as bad as it was there would have been 17 dead or something far worse. There's a lot of pedestrian traffic in that area (as in most Universities) including my wife and I...

They're still saying all the injuries were minor cuts from flying glass.
