I finally tried to make a wet molded sheath. Turned out nice enough -at the second try. The leather I used for my first try was too thin so it didn´t provide a good retention. On the second one I used thicher leather and the retention is really good.

Thanks for looking and glad yuo liked it!
I made all of it. Jewellery was the first kind of stuff I started making.

That sheath is excellent.  Well done.
Thank you! It only took me two tries to make it -the leather I used for my first try was too so the retention was weak

Well done!

  :tu:

Hint: first wet mold the leather, only stitch it together afterwards. This prevents warping.

Looks like you did it this way.

I finally got round to ordering some new leather and making a new belt pouch. Specifically for a 3-4 layer SAK with the required additional thickness over my previous pouch. It's a horizontal pouch which is my preference, over built but then when you see the old version of this pouch (last pic) which has been on my belt almost every single day for 5 years (holy leather patina batman!), you can see why I like to build them strong! I built it a bit more simply than the previous one which had high end Horween leather, a fancier X stitch and had a smooth leather interior for an easier slide in and out but this one was me trying to work out if I still remembered how to make this model and I used a simpler Crazy Horse leather, simpler stitches, etc. It's not perfect by any means but it's more than sufficient till I have the energy to do it again in Horween with the posh stitching.

Nice one! Can't beat horizontal carry, my preference is slightly tilted. But I love the looks of the old worn one

Wet molded looks so nice, it's sometimes hard to find the right thickness to let it have retention but still form nicely. Good work

I hit the old one with some shoe polish and it's looking a lot better now. It's a trick I often use with belts to 'freshen' up their look.

Have been in need of a sheath that can carry either one of my big tools - Surge, ST300, Swisstool X.
Today the day came. Used the Victorinox and the Rebar sheaths for inspiration but made it all from one piece and used Chicago screws instead of rivets. Did not have a lot of time to spend so no colouring, no edge sanding and polishing, no protective waxes coating. But I made sure it’s sturdy and covered the metal pieces inside so they won’t scratch my tools. Overall pretty happy with the results.

I ground this prybar out of a wrench and with the box cutting bevel it turned out somawhat pokey so I made it a little kydex sheath.

Thanks! Just a hobby (one of many). Just dove in with both feet. Youtube videos and a couple of convos with the guys at the local leather shop. Still need to learn a lot and refine my technique but it is coming along. Some decent tools helped a lot as well.

How do those slanted sheaths feel? I thought about getting one of those, but was affraid it wouldn't be very confortable when sitting down.

Same, even using one of those rolling tools to mark out and evenly space the stitches, I still never could..

I use a set of stitching irons to mark the stitch line which gives me a diamond shape to orient my awl. I don’t punch all the way through but only mark the surface and then finish the hole with awl while stiching. I scribe a light line on the leather as a guide for the irons.

There is also a bit of technique use when pulling the waxed thread. These are all saddle stitched so I am using two needles. I push the first needle through from the back side of the piece then cross the other needle behind it before pushing it through. Before pushing the second through I pull the thread from the first toward me so that the second needle rides behind that strand. When the second needle goes through I wrap the thread to the rear of of the stitch in an overhand motion. Then when I pull the thread tight I pull the backside thread away from me and slightly upwards and the front side thread toward me and slightly downward being careful to pull the thread to the same tension as I pull them tight.

They are pretty comfy. I am still learning how to position them for max comfort but these pancake sheaths hug the belt line nicely. If the knife or tool is too high it can push a little into any lovehandles one might have. More slant will correct that. Really, they can be oriented for the users comfort to a certain degree. I try to keep the top of the knife/tool not much higher than the top of the belt. The bottom is dictated by the length of the knife. The bottom of the PM2 sheath pictured rides just at the top of my back pocket on a pair of jeans. Don’t even feel it sitting or standing.

I have the iron punches, but I also use one of these, after scribing the line you just start it off at one end and wheel it around and it evenly spaces where to stitch, works great when you have to do curves vs just straight lines,
