Leatherman Signal Magnetic Bit Holder

I've prototyped a removable magnetic bit holder for the 1/4" bit slot. It is made from a piece of scrap metal, a nail, super glue, and a 3/16" x 3/16" cylindrical magnet with a hole through the center. Trace the shape from the knife, cut out a paper template, glue onto scrap metal, cut shape out (I used a jeweler's saw), sand and file rough edges, dry fit with magnet, use something to mark hole, punch and drill, cut nail and file to length, glue and assemble.

I believe this accessory greatly enhances the usability of the 1/4" bit slot at a very small cost, adds an imperceptible amount of weight and with no functional loss of other tools. I've included photos and a link to a video I shot showcasing the prototype.

If I were to do it again I'd get a shorter magnet so it's perfect flush with the 3/16" hole (maybe only 1/8" tall), a piece of steel sheet metal to magnetize the entire piece (I only had aluminum on hand), and a rivet for better endurance (I didn't want to increase the magnet height so I just glued it). At the moment though, I'm happy with it and will leave it.

Nicely done mate.

I pressure fitted a little round magnet in there which worked great until one day I needed the 3/16 driver...
Broke the magnet tapping it out and haven't found another that size since.

That is very cool.

Does it stop the 1/4" bits from falling out? That is my biggest gripe with the hole, apart from that, I think it is one of the most under rated features of the Signal.

Yes the bits are completely secure, just like a traditional magnetic bit holder. If you watch the video I shake it quite vigorously.
