Leatherman Juice KFS8 a.k.a. The Harlequin
on: December 12, 2017, 06:26:06 PM
The Leatherman Juice KF4 is often mentioned as the best of the Juice line (probably followed by the Pro).  The problem is that the KF4 has no scissors.  Some would swap the (excellent) saw for scissors, some would swap the (amazing) diamond file for scissors, and others might drop the serrated (or even straight) blade.  What's a modder to do?

Have it all!   >:D

Here is my modded Juice, the KFS8 (the obvious name for it), a.k.a. The Harlequin, because of the scales (that indicate its heritage.)  But first, my thanks to wowaboro, MusicMen, and kingofswords, who provided many of the parts one way or another.

All the parts are from the Juice line, except the small bit holder from the Wave, and the teflon covered package opener from the Tao Tool keyring tool.

The insides are standard Juice.

I had to join pivots to get the length needed.  And I ground down the back spring holding tab on the outermost layers as they were a tiny bit too wide.

I may take off the scales and leave it naked (or send off the outermost four frames and get a cerakote colouring).

I used to have a Juice Pro, and this feels no larger (I sold the Pro, so no side by side comparisons, sorry).  It weighs 216g and is about 2cm thick.

Where did you get the pivots for this?

Nice job though, looks heavy! Lol

I had to join pivots --- put a pivot screw half-way in, with a bit of superglue.  Grind off the top of the pivot screw, and screw on another pivot.  Build it, then gdrind down the excess pivot barrel.   It weight 216g vs the 195g for a new XE6, and feels nice in the hand.  No corkscrew, and even sized sides.

I took Zed's advice, and sanded down the scales.  Then I painted the scales using a car repair kit (primer and colour coat in one little pack).  I guess I cannot call it a Harlequin anymore.

I've removed the small drivers from the outside opening set, as they were difficult to get to.

This looks awesome   , except the pliers now look so skinny. Seeing this, I wish LMT to do an on-steroid, mini Wave, a shorter but fatter version of Wave. It would have so much potential.
