ok.. here goes. I purchased my mosin 91/30 a while back and today i stumbled upon the oil bottle it came with. i decided to try the oil on just the bolt (i can always clean the rifle later) for how old it was it worked great! but i started to wonder if it was the same as cosmoline. i'm not really concerned just curious but i am surprised that after  60 or so years it is still a a liquid. if any of you know what this oil is the information would be great

Cosmoline is a rust preventative put on the rifles for storage.  The oil in the bottle should be a lubricant. I'm not sure if you'd be able to nail down the specific oil, I remember hearing a while back that the Russian Armories used a couple different ones. (<--- don't quote me on that... sometimes my memory sucks :D)  Either way, the oil in the bottle and Cosmoline should be two different things.

How do you like the 91/30 by the way?  I keep toying with the idea of picking one up. I'm curious to know the accuracy (consistancy wise) at 100+ yards.

Which ones are hard to find?  I usually see a lot of 38's and 44's, and a few of the other modells at the Gun Show's here in Michigan.

Any are hard to find. The last one I got the 91/59 the only way I was able to get it was my science teacher(this was when I was in school) sold guns and he got it from a police auction(previous owner murdered someone with it) because he knew I liked milsurp guns. Around here any kind of affordable gun is nearly impossible to get because of the election and people hoarding them...

That's pretty wild.  I haven't been to a gun show in a little over a month... but there were tables full of 44's going for about $70 each.  I'll have to hit the show next weekend and see if things are still the same...

after i had the rifle for a couple months i replaced my rear blade sight with a mojo sight that really helped accuracy. last time i shot, i did 3, 3 shot groups at about 50 yrds. each group could be covered by a piece of circular paper 3 inch in dia. which for a  69 year old gun (mine is made in 1939) that isn't bad. i'd say for a cheap gun just go buy one. there are lots of reman barrels online, syn stocks, if it's not accurate out of the box you cheaply make it accurate. kinda like a 10/22 only cheaper.

i think i would trade all my rifles except my .22 and shotgun for a mitchell mauser. those shouldn't be considered milsurp.

They only want $2,995. for the mauser snipe rifle in collector grade, and for a collector grade K98k mauser $399.,and for a service grade K98k $249.,and the Russian Mosin M91/30 Sniper rifle,$1,494. :salute:

P.S. VFW dose stand for Veterans of Foreign Wars, which I'm a Life Member.

I have a Yugosloavian SKS. I love it it has a grenade launcher that I have adapted a golf ball launcher to!!!!! I have a Chinese SKS I am modifying into a target rifle as well. When I get home I will post a couple pics of the Yugo.

Did your Yugo come with a cleaning kit in its stock? If it did is it different than the Chinese ones?
