Aluminum won't work. It doesn't have the hardness compare to steel nuts to resist stripping, the whole tool may not break but wrench tooth would be damaged the first time it slips.

Yup, as would the screwdriver and prybar tip.  I made an aluminum prototype with no intention of keeping the part aluminum, but it surely did strip.  Not a horrible idea though.  PS.  no dice on damascus  :surrender: Too hard for me to get it right, I'm looking to get a relatively easy heat-treat steel.

420 stainless?  the stainless steels have a much more complicated heat treat unfortunately...ill look into the 420 with more detail, but I know the carbon and tool steels are easier to heat treat.

As long as you don't go for something that will turn orange at the sight of water I don't think it will be an issue.

Yeah stainless is not really necessary. One thing thou, I don't see where it would attach to keychain easily.

Good news gents!!! I know this is slow moving, I cant even tell you how busy I've been with school, but I found a source for magnifying lenses that will work PERFECTLY for the Crony!!! From what it seems like, many of you really want it.  It will be small, similar to the size of the hole seen in the prototypes and pictures, but definitely functional.  Its going to be slightly larger than the original Vic SAK.  So, looks like the mag is going to be good to go, and as soon as classes end and I graduate I'm going to be cranking these out full time!

That's good news.  I'd live without the magnifier personally but it will certainly make it stand out from the crowd.

I don't know if this has been mentioned in this thread (it's a very long thread) but if the magnifying glass were capable of starting a fire it would be a great piece of kit.
