Your least usefull SAK.
on: January 16, 2018, 04:48:48 PM
What would be your least usefull SAK and why?  For me it would be my Money clip. It a pain to have to pull out your cash in front of every one. Then to use it you have to take your cash out of the clip. It's much easier and draws less attention to just use a Classic or something similar.

I've awlways wondered about the MC.... like if you use it for both holding money and cutting things... seems like that could get complicated...

Least useful

For me, it's one layer SAKs with no other tools ...  sometimes I buy them.. solo's, secretary's, pocket pal's... mostly because I think they look cool but I don't really carry them...

Interesting, I count my PX-D as one of my most useful, and I use it often.  :salute:

I have some least used, like a number of Classics and a Roc Ambassador, but no least useful.

I think so too RS, maybe least used, but for someone who only needs a decent sized pocketable blade, an alox Solo is extremely useful.  :tu:

I think all SAKs are made to be useful, why would they make a useless one? Even the plastic Theo Klein SAK-alike for kids has an intended use.  ;)

I consider any SAK over 6 layers to be too thick and having too weird handle proportions to be actually useful.  Might just be me. Apart from those I think all the models have their practical sweet spots.

Interesting, I found my SwissChamp not only useful but a lifesaver a few times.  :D

It may have the most tools of any SAK I own, but my Tinker Deluxe stays home most often, which in a sense makes it least useful. Too much stuff on it is replicated and better on my Rebar. I even like the Ps4 plyers better. It's a great knife with tons of versatility, but I already carry good plyers tool, so the one aspect that sets it apart makes it seldom carried these days.

My red-LED Swisslite.

It's like a much fatter Classic... except it can put out an anemic amount of red light! Yay.  :(

Sad, too, because it's got Ruby scales, and would be awesome if it put out white light.

^^^^ ... And you lose one of the toothpick or tweezers

Hey Lynn - Get a newer version - As they have white LEDs now !!

Well I am going to be controversial - For me it is Vic's most popular 91mm SAK and the original Officer's Knife - The Spartan
I just don't want a SAK without scissors - Note: I am mainly an urban SAK Champion
..... So for busk walking/camping - I could make do with no scissors and replace them with a saw - eg  a Camper, or better still the Wenger Rangers etc

Also yes, the shelf queens .....
I am always in two minds about these
- Officially I like to carry all my SAKs at least once - But the fear of losing/wrecking eg a Damascus or very old 'valuable' SAK is pretty strong
And so, even if you use them once, they just sit in a box on a shelf most of the time - being useless
EDIT PS: I have a SAK on the way which I am pretty sure I will have to post here

Yeah, I know. I just don't want to shell out the cash.

Also, It doesn't bother me much to lose the toothpick. I can actually gross myself out if I think about the toothpick in a SAK for too long.

I understand this somewhat, but what are we saving them for? The great grandkids retirement? Wait until they top out on fleaBay and flip them? I carried and used my 1 of 5000 damascus Pioneer for a good long time, and it has years and years of service left in it. I think I could find a replacement if I really wanted to (and work and save a lot at this point  ::) ) even 10 years from now these will be available somewhere, people don't live forever. The enjoyment and utility I get out of using it is the value of them IMO. I suppose I am not a very good collector, but the few people who have seen my collection in person were fairly underwhelmed (other than maybe thinking I was strange or something  ::) ), which is why MTO is so nice!  :)

All we are is dust in the wind. Enjoy them while you are able to, and if that means having a museum of these very useful things that will never be used again, well that's enjoyment too, just a different kind. :tu:

I actually have a few that I will not carry, but all of them are at risk of being sold/gifted. Even the Spirit RT, perish the thought! But I justify that one by calling it my "spare"...  :D

Swisschamp XAVT, it's a conversation piece . Although I have got the belt pouch for it and carried once just for fun

I've got very long fingers and it's almost impossible to use, although like the Giant, it's a showpiece.

Any tired ones with weak backsprings...... Otherwise may have to pile on the Money clip. It's fine, just never actually use it for it's intended purpose.

Big fan of low layer count SAKs, Spartan Tinker Cadet are list toppers as I will almost always stick them with a plier based tool.

interesting topic
